Burgess has said Irwin will be 18th man. Looks like he still going with Walker, if I didn?t know any better I?d say he is just sticking two fingers up at the journalists.

Doubling down - guess that's his call.  I've not seen any comments anywhere suggesting Walker at 6 worked. It just weakened us at 9. 

Regarding Walker at 6, Burgess is saying "give it time, it will get better". Maybe it will, but we might already be out of contention for both trophies by then. I don't like to be pessimistic but I have just looked at our fixture list for May, and I would be pleasantly surprised if we won any of those games.

Indeed. Walker may get better at 6, but what about his vacated hooker position? Also what happened to next man up?

Got up and left it seems. Seriously though this season is a million miles away from last and the next man up thing is clearly blown out the water now because of results and frustration. Clear thinking as left the building.
