Had a look at the other teams in the top 5 now and they?ve received the following amount of penalties-
Saints 33
Leigh 30
HKR 29
Hull FC 24
Wigan 8
I?d love to know if there is some sort of technical reason why Wigan would have a quarter of Saints penalties and even only a third of Hull FC?s. Is it something to do with how we attack? Are we just too honest and not doing the Brodie Croft style humping of the ground from yesterday or the constant talking to the ref/throwing your arms up that Walmsley does. Are we as a fanbase too passive? The Leeds crowd were all over Smith yesterday but I very rarely hear the Brick like that.
On the face of it we?ve actually given away the least penalties with 16 but why are there so few penalties in our games in general? To be averaging less than 2 penalties received per game is absurd really and it?s hurting us. I really hope the club are on to this and asking questions as to what is going on because it can?t carry on.
Out of interest NK, where did you find the penalties received figure? Are you able to update them following this weekend?s matches.
It's a pain because it's a case of totting them up from each individual fixture by looking at the player stats on the superleague sites results page. When you do that it had us on only 18 received before yesterday but the report in the press the other day said we've had 24. Looking at yesterday, we received 4, so we're either on 22 or 28 now, dependent on which is accurate.
Just looking at what teams got over the weekend and it leaves clubs on the following-
Catalans 59 (10 received against Wakey)
Hull FC 58 (9 received against Wigan)
Wire 51 (4 received against Saints)
Saints 49 (2 received against Wire)
HKR 49 (5 received against Leeds)
Leeds 48 (5 received against HKR)
Wigan 22 or 28 (4 received against Hull FC)- I can only see that we've had 22 but it's probably wrong.
Safe to say Matty Peet is losing patience with it all. He ripped in a bit in his Wigan TV interview, saying that however many times he discusses it with the refs bosses, nothing changes. Talk from him of refs trying to keep our games close and how our players don't appeal and moan for penalties like some other clubs players but he did say they don't want to go down that route. He's playing the game now and trying to apply some pressure and I'm glad he is doing because he wouldn't be doing his job if he just allowed it to continue without any comment.
