As regards Walmsley - up until this last match I thought we could do better, but now I'm undecided.I like the way he never shirks and strives to get to top SL standard and think he's not far off. Powelly hasn't really helped him by making some strange team selections lately either. As an aside,I remember the 2023 relegation team and a winger called Jorge Taufua who was tough but not much else.
Atoni is easier for me.He can be the best player on the pitch but nowhere near often enough.Under the constraints of the old regime he would probably be the best we could afford, but we can probably do better now.
I agree with that and it’s very important these days to have a winger who can finish. I did think at the beginning of the season that Walmsley could make a good SL winger but as you say I don’t think it’s been helped by not having regular game time. He played 2 tough fixtures and was solid but got dropped so it does seem he hasn’t fully had a fair shake just yet.
I would be fine with him staying beyond this season at least in the short term unless the club have a top target in mind. It would have to be someone who has speed and can finish though. Players like Taufua and battering ram players aren’t enough anymore in SL. Hall is pretty much the last of that guard and he’s just about hanging on. Our style of play we need that speed on the edges too.
If Walmsley gets a handful of games and he performs well enough then why not.
Agree about Atoni though, he can have good games where he can put in some class runs and plays but others he can be anonymous. He’s not consistent but it’s sometimes snout if there is better out there.
